The Story of Lydia Kmit Gordon
This captivating life story begins at the advent of World War II. As a child, Lydia Kmit Gordon survived the horrific bigotry, starvation and tyranny imposed on Ukraine by Nazi and Soviet forces. After her parents fled their beloved farm, the family made the harrowing trek to Austria. There, her parents and older sister were forced to labor on separate farms. In the late 1940s, the Kmits emigrated to the United States. Stateside, Lydia began her life anew, mastering English and embracing a vastly different culture. She grew up to marry a good man and bring four fine children into the world. She worked hard, played hard, loved her family and smiled with all her might. Lydia was remarkable, as is her tale.
